Core Definition
Path analysis examines which zones visitors pass through after entering, in what order, and which routes are frequently chosen or skipped. It compares movement paths with signals such as dwell, zone visits, and purchases to examine layout and operational hypotheses.
Reading main paths and individual paths together
A main path summarizes the route many visitors share. If main paths differ by entrance, that can indicate different visit purposes or entry conditions even within the same store.
Individual paths reveal differences hidden by that summary. Distinguishing visitors who seek a display first from those who browse before checkout creates more specific questions than a single average route can provide.
Interpret paths with other metrics
A frequently used route is not automatically a good one. Visitors may have had no choice but to use a narrow corridor or wait near checkout, so crowd density and dwell should be checked together.
Likewise, a rarely visited zone is not automatically a failure. Compare the role of its merchandise, distance from the entrance, and time-of-day visit purpose before deciding what to change.
How SAAI Uses It
saai insight presents visitor paths, main paths, and movement between zones from movement data connected across cameras. Operators do not treat a path alone as an answer. They compare it with dwell, merchandising, and crowding signals when reviewing layout or guidance.
