Computer vision is a technology in which deep-learning AI analyzes images or video captured by cameras to recognize people, objects, and actions, converting them into meaningful data. In retail, it is widely applied to customer traffic analysis, inventory detection, and abnormal behavior detection.

Why computer vision is changing retail

Cameras are already installed in most stores. The problem is that the footage is used only to check what happened after an incident. Computer vision turns the camera from a passive recording device into an active analysis tool.

There is a limit to how much store staff can observe by eye. They cannot monitor multiple displays at once or record every customer's behavior during busy hours. AI analyzes dozens of frames per second without fatigue, surfacing patterns that people cannot catch.
